In some cases, your employer may want to contribute to your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) on your behalf: we're here to help make this easy.
Step 1: Ensure you have funded your account
If you haven't yet contributed to your account, you'll need to do so first, in order to generate your account number. You can get started with as little as $1.
Step 2: Retrieve your account number
If you've previously funded your account and at least a month has passed, you should have monthly statements available. This is the easiest way to find the account number needed for your employer to contribute to your account. Alternatively, you should be able to access your account number in your account Documents once you have completed onboarding.
Your account number consists of 9-10 digits, usually starting with 100.
If you have trouble finding your account number and have already completed Step 1, please reach out to our support team, who can help you find it.
Step 3: Send via your employer's preferred method
In all cases, we recommend you advise our support team of the incoming transfer, so we can help ensure it arrives correctly in your account.
There are three ways your employer can make their contribution:
By Cheque
Your employer can make a cheque out to "CI Investment Services Inc.", with your name and account number listed in the memo field. This can be mailed to:
CI Investment Services Inc.
ATTN: Back Office
15 York St, 2nd Floor
Toronto, ON, M5J 0A3
Sending a cheque is the most straightforward approach but, can take longer due to paper-based processing times. We recommend sending this by registered mail as well, to ensure correct receipt.
By Bill Payment
Your employer can initiate an electronic bill payment via their financial institution to "CI Investment Services Inc.", referencing your account number.
In most cases, this is expected to be the fastest and most straightforward approach.
By Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
Your employer can create an EFT to transfer the funds by contacting our support team directly. This option is not very common, as employers would need to disclose corporate bank account info to do so.
